Position Description

Greenhouse Assistant
Volunteer Opportunity
Goal of Position: Improve the quality of plant materials produced in the greenhouses.
Sample Activities: Projects may include anything that needs to be accomplished in the greenhouses, including but not limited to, watering, weeding, planting, potting up, propagating, deadheading, spacing, pruning, and fertilizing.
Timeframe:
Number of Volunteers: Open
Length of Commitment: March through December 15th
Estimated Total Hours: 2-3 per week

Worksite: Cylburn Arboretum Greenhouses
Qualifications Sought:

  • Ability to work in small groups (1 - 4 people)
  • Tolerant of variable temperatures
  • Interest in a wide variety of plants (previous knowledge helpful but not necessary)
  • Ability to stand and move around (there are very few tasks that are completed seated)

Additional Information: The workload varies during the season, becoming lighter in the later summer months and in the fall. This allows volunteers to either move outside to the gardens during the summer months or take a few weeks off.
